"How do you know what you are capable of achieving unless you test your limits every now and then"

The Deca Triathlon 2002. The event involves a 38km swim, an 1800km ride and a 422km run. I was confident I could do it. It didn't take long for me to realise how hard this was going to be. After 12 days of pain, the reality set in - I wasn't going to finish . . Want to read my 2002 Deca story, 'CLICK HERE' to download it - or read my book which has the story included.

The Deca Triathlon 2004. After failing the 2002 event I was more determined than ever to get to that finish line in Hawaii. The story is another good one. National 24 hour track champs. How far could you run in 24 hours? I can tell you it doesn't make for a fun weekend, but what a tough challenge it turned out to be. In the end, I managed to place 2nd with a finishing distance of 184km. Not bad for a first timer, but can you believe the world record is over 300km by non other than the great Yiannis Kourous 'CLICK HERE' (soon) to read a snippet from my book on the Adelaide race.
The Cliff Young 6 Day Race. What an experience this event turned out to be. Being unfit I took on this challenge to spark me back into training again. My week was a tough one, but what an incredible experience it ended up being as Yianis Kourous, at the age of 49, managed to break the world record he set over 20 years ago. Here I am pictured chasing Yiannis if only for a short time.
The Ultraman World Champs. You jump off the Kona pier and swim 10km south. You mount your bike and ride 100km to the southern end of the island then 40km up to the volcano. Day 2 is a 276km ride to the northern side of the island. Day 3 is a 84km run back to Kona. It ended up being my best performance in a major event - 6th place. But ohh the pain.
The early years. Before taking up long course events I used to be a sprint based athlete with Pole Vaulting being my sport of choice. It included multiple state titles and records as well as a national podium. (picture here winning the World Police Fire Games). Training used to involve a stroll around the track and a few jumps - they were the good old days.
